As you wander around Castelló de la Plana’s central market, you will be immersed in the local larder. Come and explore the city’s finest produce.

Mercado Central is arguably the epicentre of Castelló de la Plana. Situated close to other iconic sights such as El Fadrí and Concathedral de Santa María, the city’s central market has been opening its doors on a near daily basis since 1949.

The idea of creating a central market dated back to some time before this as the city was keen to find a permanent home for the market stalls that used to sit in front of the council building. Traver, the architect for the project, sought to create a design that would fit in with the buildings already in the area. In successive years, the market has been renovated to improve services for visitors and create a carpark.

Mercado Central is well worth visiting during your time in Castelló de la Plana. Take your time to wander past the stalls, browse the quality products and soak up the bustling atmosphere. This is a place where shoppers, locals and visitors come together in search of the quintessence of this seaside city.

The market has over 80 stalls where you can discover the flavours of the Mediterranean and meet the people who work hard to supply quality products and keep traditions alive. During your time here you will find out all sorts of interesting information about Valencian cuisine and recipes for traditional dishes from Castelló de la Plana. The market is open Monday to Saturday from 7am to 3pm. Come and take a look around.
