Come to L'Alcora to be part of a beautiful tradition that takes place on Easter Monday.

The Festa del Rotllo, the Rotllo Festival in L'Alcora, is a lovely celebration that you’ll love experiencing. Also known as the Day of the Rotllo, the event takes place every Easter Monday and comprises a traditional pilgrimage in which the spotlight is on the children. The Infant Pilgrimage dates back to the 18th century. It is said that a children’s procession was organised at San Cristóbal Chapel, also known as El Calvario Chapel, in L'Alcora to put an end to a severe drought that threatened the local crops.

Not long after this event, the dry spell was broken with rain and bread rolls sprinkled with aniseed were made to celebrate.

During the pilgrimage, the pilgrims have a mid-morning snack of Easter monas or sandwiches that they brought from home. Upon their return to the town, they join the official procession, in which the children are dressed as angels, and together they walk to the church and hand out the bread rolls. As you can see there’s plenty to see in L’Alcora – don’t miss this festival.
