Discover a cathedral in Segorbe whose beauty will leave you lost for words.

Santa María de la Asunción Basilica Cathedral is a must-visit during your time in Segorbe. If you love historic heritage sites, you will be blown away by this 12th century cathedral.

The cathedral is built in the Gothic style, and was constructed on top of the old mosque and is connected to the southern town wall. Over time, the construction expanded towards the north. The last large modification was made in the 18th century.

In reality, the cathedral is a collection of artistic sites comprising the basilica, the belltower, the cloister and the Cathedral Museum. There is plenty for you to visit. The basilica incorporated new styles over the years and the result is spectacular. Make sure you take time to admire the paintings and frescoes in the vault, which is the work of José Vergara, Manuel Camarón and Luis Planes.

The Gothic cloister was built between the 13th and 14th centuries and is surrounded by seven original chapels. In one of these, El Salvador Chapel, you can see the cathedral’s Great Altarpiece, which is a key piece of Spanish Renaissance painting. Last but by no means least, Segorbe’s Cathedral Museum is one of the most important in the Region of Valencia in terms of sacred art. So come and take a leisurely look around all the parts of Santa María de la Asunción Cathedral and soak up everything it has to offer.
