The Crypts of Segorbe Cathedral will take you on an exploration of what lies beneath the cloister of the 13th century cathedral. Dating from between the 13th and 14th centuries, the crypts comprise of four rooms where you can see a number of fascinating exhibitions.

The displays will take you on a chronological journey through the history of Segorbe Diocese. You will discover the evolution and growth of the area and local death rituals, which included dances. Historically, Segorbe cathedreal was where illustrious townspeople were laid to rest.

As part of the display, there is a reconstruction of a crypt with a tomb so you can see what a funeral chapel would have looked like in the past. An old monk will also tell you how people thought about death in the Medieval period.

During your time in Segorbe, we highly recommend visiting the cathedral and its crypts before strolling around the streets of the historic centre. The town also has a number of museums – dedicated to olive oil, archaeology and ethnology – as well as an aqueduct, towers and walls, all of which are well worth a visit. If you follow the walls in the direction of Valle del Palancia, you will be treated to some incredible views. Start planning your trip to Segorbe today.
