Casa de las Compuertas, the Sluice Gate House, in Antella, Valencia, is an important part of the area’s hydraulic heritage. It controls the flow of water from the River Júcar into the Acequia Real del Júcar, and its setting beside the river makes it a pleasant place to walk while learning more about the traditional irrigation systems that have shaped the landscape.
Things to see at the Sluice Gate House in Antella
The site dates back to the 17th century, while the present building was erected in 1732 to house three sluice gates that played a key role in managing water across the area. After being rebuilt following the floods of 1982, it retained its upper lookout, which was once used to send signals to local farmers with a flag.
A visit to the Sluice Gate House lets you see this historic structure up close and enjoy the River Júcar at the well-known Azud del Oro. From here, you can continue exploring Antella, including its summer bathing area and the landscapes of inland Valencia.
