The former Santo Domingo Convent is one of Xàtiva's best preserved Gothic buildings. Come and explore it!

The exconvento de Santo Domingo, former Santo Domingo Convent, is one of the most outstanding Gothic monuments in Xàtiva and throughout the Region of Valencia. Its construction began in the late 13th century under the impetus of King Jaume II, when Xàtiva was one of the Kingdom of Valencia's most important urban centres.

For centuries, this Dominican convent was a cultural and spiritual landmark, housing an outstanding library and serving as a place of religious education. Valuable elements still remain from its original architecture, such as the Cistercian-style refectory, chapter house and part of the cloister. The single-nave church retains its Gothic structure with six, pointed diaphragm arches and an atmosphere of contemplation that has survived the passage of time.

After the confiscation of the monasteries in the 19th century, the convent was used for various purposes, but thanks to the restoration work carried out since 1981, much of its heritage value has been recovered. It now houses the Corpus Christi Museum, with a permanent exhibition on this local tradition.

If you are passing through the region of La Costera, this is a must-see!
