The Antiguo Hospital Municipal, Old Municipal Hospital of Xàtiva, also known as the Royal Hospital, is one of the most fascinating and representative buildings in the city's historical heritage. Founded in 1244 by order of Jaume I, this building was originally intended as a royal hospital to care for the local population. Over the centuries, the hospital was rebuilt and remodelled, acquiring its current structure and style, typical of the 16th century, which makes it an outstanding architectural monument.
It is located at a key point on Xàtiva's tourist routes, especially on the well-known ‘Ruta de la Memoria’ (Memory Route), which takes in places of great historical importance for the city. During the Holy Week and Easter festivities, the Old Hospital opens its doors to the public, allowing visitors to explore its rooms and discover its rich history, as well as appreciate the architectural details that reflect its evolution over time. Don't miss it! And to top off the day, savour an authentic arroz al horno (baked rice dish). You won't be disappointed.
