Explore Pou del Barber, an old ice house, as you take a lovely walk through the landscapes of El Carrascal de la Font Roja.

Sitting on the slopes of El Menejador in El Carrascal de la Font Roja natural park is an historic site that the people of Ibi hold close to their heart. Pou del Barber, also known as Cava Blanca and Cava de Santa María, is an old ice house.

Circular in shape with an interior built from limestone bricks, the ice house was part of a network located across the mountainscape of El Carrascal de la Font Roja. The historic figure of nevateros used to fill the structures with snow, which was then transformed into ice and sold to people in Alcoy, Alicante and beyond.

If you are interested in exploring this ice house, the best way is on foot. The scenery surrounding Ibi is criss-crossed with hiking routes that will lead you deep into the l’Alcoià landscape and the historic sites populating it.

There is also a network of museums in Ibi which tell the fascinating story of the town’s past. Come and explore.
