Feel the warmth of a tradition deeply rooted in the heart of Castellón. Over the winter celebrations, fire and local heritage fill the town centre, creating a strong sense of community.

The Festa de Santa Llúcia, Santa Lucía Festival, in Borriol, Castellón, is one of the town’s most standout celebrations and an important part of its local cultural heritage. It’s well worth experiencing if you’re in the area.

When is the Santa Lucía Festival in Borriol?

Held around 13 December, the festival brings people together in the streets and keeps alive a tradition with deep roots in the town’s cultural identity. Its origins are linked to old winter rituals and the symbolic burning of gathered firewood.

At the heart of the celebrations is the large bonfire that lights up the town centre, recalling historical traditions associated with local landmarks such as the Rajolar de Baix Chapel and the San Bartolomé Parish Church.

The programme also includes street parades, music, fireworks and traditional local food for both residents and visitors. It’s a great time to wander through the old town, explore Borriol’s architectural heritage and experience one of the area’s most authentic cultural events.
