Discover a museum that holds the history of Borriol among its walls.

Borriol History Museum, also known as MUHBO, is located in La Vila House, a late 18th century building with an attractive neoclassical style. The building was constructed on the grounds of El Consejo House, which dates back to the 15th century, and of which only an oval Gothic arch remains.

The origin of the museum is the Borriol Museographic Collection, which arose in the 80s with the ambition of creating an ethnological and archaeological museum of the town. The collection stems from individual donations, digs and local collectors. Many years later, in March 2020, the collection was recognised as Borriol History Museum, which is open to the general public and that we encourage you to come and visit.

What will you see in the museum? Your exploration starts on the ground floor, which displays pieces found in archaeological sites dating from prehistoric times to the Iberian period. There is another room dedicated to the Roman period which houses the collection’s star piece: Mil·liari de Borriol, with an epigraphic inscription engraved on the stone.

The first floor focuses on the period between the 8th and 19th centuries, with most of the objects on display discovered in digs in the Moorish district, located at the foot of Borriol Castle. You will see fragments of 15th century decorated floor tiles, Baroque crockery and traditional toys, among many other pieces. Finally, the second floor is dedicated to the traditional trades of Borriol, highlighting the ethnological pieces corresponding to stone work (stonecutters).

Come and take a look around MUHBO and you will take a deep dive into the culture, history and tradition of Borriol and the surrounding area. A fascinating experience. Will we see you there?
