Discover a rock art site on La Joquera Walk in Borriol.

The rock art of the Iberian Mediterranean Basin was listed World Heritage by UNESCO in 1998. The listing comprises a collection of rock art sites in the eastern part of Spain, an area with a large concentration of this type of artwork that has withstood the passing of time. One of the sites is La Joquera Cave in Borriol.

La Joquera rock art is located on the left bank of El Albaroc ravine. The revine connects Plana de Castelló and Valle de Borriol. The site is just 2km from the centre of the town and 8km from the coast, making it one of the Levantine arts site closest to the Mediterranean.

So what can you see here? If you make your way to La Joquera rock shelter, you will see, through the grating protecting it, a human figure that is about 10cm tall, painted in red tones. The figure is a hunter with a bow in his hand that is wearing a headdress with feathers. To the side, there are other marks of colour that can be interpreted as hunting scenes in which a number of men are chasing a group of animals.

There is a trail that will take you to the rock art, La Joquera Walk, which is a circular route that will take you to the cave. You will also see the Iberian settlement of El Tossal de las Horcas and the Mill Turret. A wonderful way to delve into the natural and cultural heritage of Borriol: don’t miss it.
