Starting in Culla and ending in Benicarló, this tour will take you on an exploration of the mountainous inland which is populated with farms as well as a stretch of the Benicarló coast which is lined with beaches, coves and natural treasures. This tour is one of contrasts, showcasing the diversity of the scenery defining the counties of Alt Maestrat and Baix Maestrat.

The excursion starts among the almond and olive groves of the valley embracing Albocàsser. This is a town with a beautiful medieval centre and chapels that have various centuries of history to their name. Next stop is Torre d'En Besora, which is one of the most beautiful villages in the province of Castellón. While you’re here, make sure you visit the church and see the remains of the medieval walls.

Then jump in your car and drive to Culla to see the oldest holm oak in the Region of Valencia, a veteran tree that is 25m tall. Continue to Benassal, passing through Barranc dels Horts on your way, a valuable botanical treasure. In Ares del Maestrat, make sure you see the prehistoric paintings that have been listed a World Heritage Site.

Catí, Sant Mateu, Cervera del Maestre and Càlig are other municipalities on the way to Benicarló. The coastal destination is home to dreamy beaches and a centre that is well worth taking a stroll around. Take your time and tour some of the most beautiful parts of the province of Castellón.
