Los restos el Solar de la Antigua Ciudad de Xàtiva, or the remains known as the Site of the Ancient City of Xàtiva, also referred to as the Islamic Palace of Xàtiva, in Valencia, form part of an archaeological park set alongside the first line of city walls, between the hermitages of Sant Josep and Sant Feliu.
What can you see at the Islamic Palace or Site of the Ancient City of Xàtiva?
This site offers a glimpse into Xàtiva’s Andalusi past through the remains of a 12th-century Islamic palace, uncovered during archaeological excavations in 1991 and now clearly visible to visitors.
The layout of this Islamic Palace of the Ancient City of Xàtiva, follows an Almohad design, organised into four distinct areas that help bring everyday life in this type of residence into focus. There was a domestic area for daily living, a noble space linked to power and representation, a section reserved for guests, and a central courtyard that connected the whole complex while providing light and cooling—a defining feature of Islamic architecture.
A walk through this archaeological park weaves together history, landscape and heritage, with open views across the surrounding area and a clear sense of the cultural layers that have shaped the city over time. It’s a place to pause, take it all in and let your imagination wander among ancient walls and centuries of history... one you simply cannot miss!
