Built on the foundations of an earlier 13th-century church, Iglesia Parroquial de Santa María de Cocentaina, Santa María Parish Church, is one of the best-known religious monuments in the whole of the El Comtat county.

Things to see at Santa María Parish Church in Cocentaina

Also known as the Church of the Assumption of Santa María, the present building is the result of major alterations carried out between the 16th and 19th centuries. Its most notable features include the solemn Baroque doorways, the 18th-century bell tower and the Chapel of Communion. Inside Santa María Parish Church, particular attention should be paid to the frescoes in the presbytery which were painted in the late 18th century.
