Read this short guide to Monóvar’s festivals and start preparing your getaway to coincide with the events.

Fiestas en Monóvar, Monóvar’s festivals, fill the year with great events that you won’t want to miss.

The festival calendar starts in February with one of Monóvar’s greatest festivals, Carnival, which is celebrated with parades, music and costumes. Next is Holy Week, followed by a flurry of festivities when summer is approaching and the weather starts to get warmer. Monóvar’s festivals spill outside the centre and into the districts and hamlets located around the town. Running throughout July and August, the events are defined by tradition, religion and fun, taking place in El Hondón, Cañadas de D. Ciro, Casas del Señor, La Romaneta, Chinorlet and Santa Bárbara districts.

In September, there’s another big event: Mayores Festival, also known as the Patron Saint Festival. The event is held in honour of La Virgen del Remedio and includes religious events, beautiful processions, La Salve, giants and big heads, parades, bull events, dances, live music and vermouth sessions. There really is something for everyone.

On the final weekend of November, it’s time for Santa Caterina Fair, an event that dates all the way back to 1883. For one weekend, you can enjoy plenty of culture complete with theatre, book presentations and a great atmosphere. For the second weekend of the fair, the streets will transport you back to medieval times with a huge crafts and gastronomic market. There will also be rides for children, a procession and a bonfire. Come and experience all these excellent festivals in Monóvar.
