Valencia is a treasure trove of culture and tradition, home to myriad UNESCO World Heritage sites. Now, come join us as we show you the best of this amazing region.
As we take you on a journey around Valencia UNESCO World Heritage sites, you’ll have the chance to discover a plethora of amazing monuments, festivals and traditions. It would be impossible to include all of them in one article, so we’re going to focus on the absolute essentials. If you’re planning a tour of Valencia, these are all musts!
A tour of UNESCO World Heritage Sites in the Region of Valencia
If we could pick one place to start our tour of UNESCO sites in Valencia, it would be L'Alcora in the province of Castellón. Specifically, we’d go there on Good Friday, when this ancient town reverberates to an astonishing cacophony of drums.
Then we would take in the incredible Valltorta-Gassulla Cultural Park, nestled between Albocàsser, Ares del Maestrat and Benassal. The Iberian Peninsula’s Mediterranean Basin is home to some of the world’s most famous cave art, and much of it can be found here, etched into the park’s magnificent rock shelters.
From here, it’s just a short journey down the coast into the Province of Valencia, where we can enjoy some of the region’s most spectacular World Heritage festivities: Las Fallas, held every March in the capital city of València, and the Mare de Déu de la Salut Festival, which lights up the city of Algemesí with its passionate traditional dances in September.
Doubtless you’ve heard lots about Fallas before; after all, it’s one of the most famous parties in the world! But there’s loads more to explore when you come to visit València, like the monumental Lonja de la Seda (Silk Exchange), whose lavish decoration and Gothic architecture make it a fantastic addition to any tour of Valencia UNESCO World Heritage sites.
And for the final leg of our Valencia World Heritage tour? We’d go to Elche, in the gorgeous province of Alicante. Here, you can relax in the shadow of the huge Palmeral of Elche grove palm, and discover the Pusol Museum, home to more than 90,000 historical artefacts.
Honestly, there are so many attractions we could have included in this list. So be sure to prepare many excursions while you’re here!
