Les Festes a Sant Antoni Abat del Barri de l'Ermiteta de Ontinyent, San Antonio Abad del Barrio de l'Ermiteta festival, include a number of charming traditions. Come and discover them in this corner of Valencia.

When does San Antonio Abad del Barrio de l'Ermiteta de Ontinyent festival take place and how is it celebrated?

This festival is held around 17 January and date back to the late 18th century. The celebrations are organised by the Llumeners, an association that today has nearly 1,000 members and preserves a traditional selection system known as “la Bossa”. Through this annual draw, the names of 60 festeros responsible for organising the celebrations are chosen at random, with the first selected being appointed festero mayor.

This centuries-old organisational structure ensures the continuity of emblematic events such as the blessing of animals, the Retreta de los Farolillos, and traditional dances, preserving the essence of one of the town’s most participatory celebrations and one with the strongest historical identity.
