The landscapes of inland Castellón in autumn promise breathtaking scenery and unforgettable getaways. Discover our itineraries for the season.

Do you want to put together an autumn itinerary for inland Castellón? We’ve got three itineraries that will enable you to enjoy this season in beautiful and historic settings. Get ready to explore beautiful inland villages and natural landscapes that will remain etched on your memory forever. Autumn and the province of Castellón are a great match.

Visit inland Castellón in autumn: explore Sierra de Espadán

If you’ve got four or more days, you can take a look at this itinerary around Sierra de Espadán to get an idea of everything you can enjoy in this beautiful natural park.

If you haven’t got so much time or if you enjoy a more leisurely pace, we recommend doing a reduced version of this itinerary, in which you can dedicate the first day to Azuébar, where you can take a walk to Peña Ajuerá and continue to Mount Rufo. In the afternoon you can chill out in Almedíjar, whose centre is charming, and buy some delicious artisanal cheeses. Discovering new flavours is going to be an important part of your explorations of inland Castellón this autumn.

The following day, we recommend taking an easy trail, Los Oficios, which will immerse you in cork trees and landscapes steeped in history. Spend the night in Alcudia de Veo and the following morning you have the choice between an excursion to the magnificent geological landscape of Órganos de Benitandús or to the abandoned village of Jinquer. Both options will blow you away.

Autumn itinerary for inland Castellón: L’Alt Maestrat

Next on our list of what to do in inland Castellón in autumn is soaking up the beauty of the county of L’Alt Maestrat. To start, you can spend the morning wandering around La Serratella, a lovely village surrounded by many hiking trails. Afterwards, we recommend driving to Vistabella del Maestrat.

After wandering around the historic centre and spending the night, you can embark on one of the most spectacular trails in the Region of Valencia, which starts at San Juan Bautista de Penyagolosa and Santa Bárbara Sanctuary in the middle of a natural park, and leads you up one of our most iconic mountains. The trail has some technicalities, but is absolutely worth the effort.

And last but not least, you can head to Culla, where the next day you can enjoy the medieval streets and the ruins of the old Templar castle.

What to do in Castellón in autumn: discover Els Ports

To conclude our proposals for autumn itineraries in inland Castellón, we’re heading to the beautiful county of Els Ports. Start by visiting amazing monuments like La Virgen de la Balma Shrine in Zorita del Maestrazgo. From here, make your way to Herbers which has a beautiful centre and trails that will lead you to nearby beauty spots like El Botador waterfall.

After spending the night in Herbers, it’s time to continue your explorations, now in La Tinença de Benifassà Natural Park whose scenery beckons you to walk trails, explore beautiful villages and marvel at monumental trees for two days.

You could, for instance, embark on a difficult and challenging trail - Fredes al Portell de l’infern and El Salt de Robert - which has spectacular views. Or you could choose a simpler walk around the outskirts of El Boixar. Whichever route you choose, you can’t go wrong – they’re all beautiful.
