Things to do in inland Alicante in autumn: in and around the Guadalest valley

The first autumn itinerary in inland Alicante will take you on an exploration of one of our most beautiful valleys. You’ll start in El Castell de Guadalest whose small centre clings to a rock that is topped with a castle. The destination is also full of quirky museums with fascinating collections.

At the foot of the town there is a beautiful reservoir where you can enjoy an easy walk. Your next destination is Callosa d’en Sarrià – if you visit in loquat season, make sure you try a few. If not, there are jams and a thousand other ways to enjoy the sweet fruit. From here, you won’t be far from Fonts de l’Algar, a stunning collection of waterfalls and pools where you and all the family will enjoy the day. 

Other places to visit on this autumn itinerary for inland Alicante are Benimantell, where you can dig into a dish of olleta de blat, and El Forat de Bèrnia, a majestic natural viewing point. The walk here is a little more difficult than others, but it’ll be well worth the effort. 

What to do in autumn in Alicante: sierra de Mariola, inland villages and Alcoy

We’re going to start this itinerary by exploring sierra de Mariola with an incredible hiking trail through the magical El Cint gorge. Afterwards, it’s time to visit the fascinating town of Alcoy which has great Art Nouveau sites and countless opportunities to soak up some culture. 

Next, we’re heading to the small destination of Agres, which is the perfect trailhead for an unforgettable hike to see Cava Gran, a great structure nestled in the midst of the mountains. While you’re here, make sure you try delicious pericana and borreta – the gastronomy in the area is absolutely amazing. 

Autumn itinerary for inland Alicante: castles and historic villages

The third and final autumn itinerary for inland Alicante will enable you to do some castle hopping as you explore beautiful villages. Castalla and its castle are your first destination, followed by Onil and El Marqués de Dos Aguas Castle Palace, not to mention the incredible hedge maze in Casa Tápena.

In the following days, you could visit the impressive La Atalaya Castle in Villena and end up in Novelda where you can see the unique La Mola Castle and María Magdalena Sanctuary. An itinerary to soak up the history, heritage and incredible landscapes, perfect for anyone wanting to admire the province of Alicante from the top of its fortresses.
