Winter Getaways in the Region of Valencia: A White Villages Route

In Castellón, the village of Aín, tucked away in the Sierra de Espadán, is the perfect place to begin. Its old town still follows the layout of its Moorish past and is dotted with charming spots such as the viewpoint and the old washhouse—not to be missed. You should also wander through the historic centre of Peñíscola, where strolling among whitewashed streets is a pleasure in itself. It’s so beautiful, it’s hard to put into words.

Our route through the white villages of the Region of Valencia now takes us to the Los Serranos region, where Chulilla, Sot de Chera and Chelva invite you to slow down and explore at your own pace, surrounded by some of the area’s most enchanting scenery. White façades, traditional washhouses and mountains as a backdrop set the scene, alongside plenty of walking routes to enjoy. And close to the coast, Oliva is another white village well worth discovering.

We continue on to Alicante, where the route reveals real highlights such as El Castell de Guadalest, with its astonishing old town perched high on a rock. We’ll also stop in Altea, where whitewashed façades contrast beautifully with blue-tiled rooftops, and in Jávea, where the town’s seafaring soul is still very much alive and photo opportunities abound among the old fishermen’s houses.
