You’re looking at the idyllic town of Cocentaina, the capital of El Comtat. From Plaza el Pla, you can see the Palacio de los Condes de Cocentaina, in El Palau—which is also home to the local tourism office. This Gothic-style construction stands out for its grandeur and elegance. Also within view, you can see Iglesia del Salvador and the Arab neighbourhood of Raval.
What can you do near Cocentaina?
Cocentaina has an enormous cultural and historical legacy. Visitors can see this in the Monasterio de la Mare de Déu, which was built in 1656 and occupies part of the Palace of the Counts. The Museo Arqueológico y Etnológico del Comtat also stands our for its traditional crops, wheat, olives and artisanal production of flour, oil and wine. If you visit Cocentaina, be sure to check out the remains of its Medieval walls. They’re 1,000+ metres in length and run across the entire town!
