Whether you opt for a holiday in the province of Castellón, Valencia or Alicante during Holy Week, your Easter holiday promises to be an unforgettable experience. Get stuck into some of the region’s most spectacular festivals and see local traditions unfold before you. Plus, you’ll find plenty of cultural events, foodie plans and outdoor activities to complete your holiday. All you have to do is decide where to go.
L’Alcora
Holy Week in Castellón might lead you to L’Alcora. On Good Friday, the town is flooded with the sound of drumming for the thrilling UNESCO-recognised event, Rompida de la Hora.
If you want to add some adventure to your Holy Week getaway, the L’Alcora reservoir is just the place. Enjoy kayaking, family-friendly adventure circuits, via ferratas and hiking. Expect to fall in love with the stunning surroundings as you go off exploring.
Vinaròs
Easter Week in Vinaròs features striking early-morning processions, including one held on Holy Wednesday, along with many other events that fill the town’s streets with an atmosphere that is both solemn and festive. The celebrations are also accompanied by a varied programme of cultural activities.
While you’re there, take the opportunity to explore its beautiful coastline. Stretching for more than 12 kilometres, it leads to enchanting spots such as La Foradada cove. And don’t forget to try the town’s famous Vinaròs prawns!
València
València’s Semana Santa Marinera, Maritime Holy Week, is the perfect excuse for a trip to the city. The streets by the seafront come alive with festivity and are graced with biblical figures, stunning floats and age-old curious traditions, such as throwing plates, glasses and buckets of water out of the window on Holy Saturday.
We've put together the perfect itinerary to discover the essentials of València in just a few days - without any stress. Or perhaps you'd prefer a tour of its iconic architecture, exploring Gothic, Baroque and Art Nouveau masterpieces. The city is bursting with activities: try paddleboarding off the harbour, wander through the bustling Central Market, or take a trip back in time at L’ETNO, the ethnographic museum crowned Best Museum in Europe in 2023.
Torrent
A trip during Easter to Torrent in the province of Valencia is also a great idea. Don’t miss the Easter Sunday festivities including the popular Encuentro Glorioso.
The highlights of the event are the Queen of Encuentro and Angel of Resurrection, the traditional carxofa - a giant artichoke - and the flurry of colourful papers inscribed with verses, or hallelujahs, that fill the streets of Torrent with messages recounting the year's events.
Orihuela
Holy Week is the perfect opportunity to explore Orihuela. Expect impressive religious and cultural events that will blow you away. Witness the solemn El Silencio procession, the Canto de la Pasión and El Santo Entierro procession featuring the imposing figure of the Caballero Cubierto and the striking float of La Diablesa. Every element is special, solemn and moving.
It’s also a wonderful time to explore the city’s monuments. Orihuela is full of historic landmarks and unexpected treasures waiting to be discovered.
Elche
If you find yourself in Alicante over Easter, then Elche is the place to be for Palm Sunday. A few days before, Palma Blanca Market offers exquisite palm-leaf creations used in the Palm Sunday procession to re-create the welcome of Jesus in Jerusalem.
Don’t leave Elche before sampling a hearty plate of egg-topped rice and getting to know the three UNESCO sites: Palmeral, Misteri d’Elx and Escolar de Pusol Museum.
