Let us take you on a cultural itinerary through the city of Alicante so you can discover incredible spots built over the centuries. Set aside a few days to learn about art and culture!

Through this cultural itinerary in Alicante, you discover monuments, buildings steeped in history and fascinating museums. We recommend taking at least two days to enjoy it all at a leisurely pace. If you can add an extra day, it will let you include a few more interesting visits.

Monuments in Alicante: Day 1

Our cultural itinerary in Alicante begins at the city’s outskirts, visiting its earliest origins at the archaeological site of Tossal de Manises. The Iberian-Roman city of Lucentum is a real treasure, housing thermal baths, the remains of walls, towers and much more.

Let’s keep discovering what to see in Alicante city and move on to the historic centre, where we visit such significant buildings as the Town Hall, the 17th-century Co-Cathedral of San Nicolás de Bari, the Parish Church of Santa María, with its surprising blend of Gothic and Baroque styles, the Art Nouveau Central Market and the unique Air-raid Shelter No. 13. You will have travelled through centuries of history and enjoyed some iconic buildings.

Finally, we will arrive at the charming La Santa Cruz Chapel and can watch the last rays of the setting sun from the magnificent Santa Bárbara Castle, a beautiful Arab fortress. That culminates the first day of our cultural itinerary in Alicante!

Museums in Alicante: Day 2

Our cultural route in Alicante will take you to some incredible museums, but before delving into their collections, we suggest you start the day with a visit to a monument offering fabulous vistas: San Fernando Castle, built to defend the city from Napoleon's troops.

The Provincial Archaeological Museum (MARQ), will be our first museum stop. This museum looks back at the past but uses all the technology of the future in its cutting-edge approach. Next, we immerse ourselves in an authentic artistic experience at the Alicante Museum of Contemporary Art (MACA). Then we'll head back up to Mount Benacantil to visit the Museum of the City of Alicante (MUSA). If you still have time, head to the Ocean Race Museum down at the port!

If you stay an extra day, this could be the perfect chance to take a trip to the island of Tabarca to visit its museum, or escape to Santísima Faz Monastery, a Baroque gem. This is a real cultural immersion! Discover other great itineraries like this one in Alicante by subscribing to our newsletter. Let us help you organise your getaway.
